I am doing a research project on an engineering material. I chose silicone. I can't seem to find if they have made it. I know that they were trying to create it in like... 1993. But does anyone know if they have made it yet?Have they made tannable silicone?
Darned interesting question. I assume by ';tannable'; you mean changes color with exposure to UV, like some lighter human skin does.
There are some silicone items produced which change color when exposed to UV. The URL below is an example of a bracelet which turns from light to dark. Hardly typical human skin tones, though.
I could have sworn that many years ago I read of a silicone (or other) rubber that to at least some small exent did look and act a bit like skin - although as you might expect it didn't retain the tan for long. And I almost want to remember that some sort of toy (a doll?) was produced with it. However, I can't find a reference to either of those crazy notions on the internet.
You've gotten me curious now, which means I'll probably keep digging at this whether I want to or not! If by chance you ever get a definte answer, I'd appreciate it if you'd drop me a quick note.
