Forgive me, but I don't really know why you ask this question in this category (these seem more at home in a DIY section than beauty). Out of the three, only Gore-Tex is breathable, which is why you find it in high-end raincoats (so that moisture from your skin can escape to the atmosphere without letting rainwater pass through).
Silicone is the only one that you can get in liquid form. I've not seen it used for fashion as much as sealing around the edges of baths and showers.
e-PTFE... well I know that PTFE comes in tape form and can be used to pack out very small gaps, making it useful for ensuring a gas/watertight seal on screw threads. Not sure about its expanded cousin, but I'd guess it'd be light and a good insulator.

Single edge razor should work. If you still have residue, try Goo-Gone to take it off. That stuff took off masking tape residue that was on my hardwood floors for more than a year.

Well if you have 3/4'; plugs, then you will need 3/4'; ears. Silicone is good cause they're squishy, so you can fold them up and put them in. None of the annoying double flared business.
But, you should NEVER wear silicone in fresh stretches. It fuses to fresh skin, and gets stuck and is generally horrible. Wait a month after a stretch before you wear them.
And tapers are not jewellery, wear plugs. And leave a month or two inbetween stretches, and never ever skip sizes.
Next size up is 3/4';, but I wouldn't use tapers. 4mm skip is ALOT. Try taping.

I'm wondering if my new shower drain (for a tiled shower floor) needs to be caulked? The lip of the weep rim is set to floor level and the strainer is about an inch higher which screws on.
Does this strainer portion need to be caulked (under) after it is set at the correct level? So basically, I instrall the drain, the tile is already set, screw on the top strainer portion. Does that portion also need to be sealed onto the tile? Thx in advance!Does shower drain require silicone?

Silicone-based lube rocks, but it makes doing laundry a drag. Even after machine washing in hot water, the sheets seem to retain a faint permanent stain. Switching to water-based lube or using lesser-quality scratchy sheets are both out. As everyone knows, early morning sex is the best, so could you help a brother out? Suggestion: put a towel or another cheap sheet over the good sheet if you're having an early morning romp. It only takes a few seconds and then you're on your way and it will save wear %26amp; tear on your Bill Blass linens.
Silicone based lubrication or as some call it silicone grease can be removed by placing cooking oil on the stain first, then squirting dawn dish-washing liquid onto the same said stain and rubbing it together add two scoops of oxyclean or any oxygen based bleach along with liquid detergent, wash as per usual , this should solve your problem.It also brightens your colors as well.

Suggestion: put a towel or another cheap sheet over the good sheet if you're having an early morning romp. It only takes a few seconds and then you're on your way and it will save wear %26amp; tear on your Bill Blass linens.
Silicone based lubrication or as some call it silicone grease can be removed by placing cooking oil on the stain first, then squirting dawn dish-washing liquid onto the same said stain and rubbing it together add two scoops of oxyclean or any oxygen based bleach along with liquid detergent, wash as per usual , this should solve your problem.It also brightens your colors as well.
Silicone is petroleum based so use dawn dish washing liquid to treat the stained areas rub it in with a brush let it stand for 30 minutes and wash as usual in cold water .

I'm going to be getting a brand-spanking-new laptop soon and i'm wondering if there are any companies that make custome laptop skins. I don't mean like the vinyl stickers you can get and stick on the front cover. i'm thinking like the ones available for ipods or cell phones - something that encases the entire laptop. Can't tell difference between silicone v. latex and I want to remove caulking between tub and limestone tile.?
Be careful with that tile. Limestone is a fairly soft material and can be easily scratched with a utility knife.
Silicon has a very rubbery consistency as opposed to latex caulk. There are products made for removing caulk. I would consider one of these. Test an inconspicuous place on the tile first to make sure it won't stain or otherwise alter the appearance of the tile before using it. Use a plastic scraper for furniture refinishing to avoid damaging the tub or tile. Another way that works well if the caulk is latex is a heat gun if you have one or can borrow one. By heating the caulk it becomes very pliable and can be removed easily. If you have mold problems, spray the area with 10% bleach solution after removing the caulk. The bleach will kill any remaining mold. Let dry for several hours or overnight if possible. Tapers aren't necessarily the best answer unless you go to a professional to stretch for you..which no one really does, unless you have the extra money. But they're the ones that can really tell if your ear is ready to stretch at the time. Everyone's earlobe elasticity is different, and tapers get the job done but what they do is force your ear to stretch, which in most cases isn't always the best way. Anyway now to your question, silicone is probably the worst material next to acrylic to stretch your ears. It's very porous which means it will expand a bit when it's wet and it holds onto bacteria and adhesive that can ';grow'; or ';run off'; into your ear. I would say silicone is OK if your ears are completely healed and it's just temporary..other than that it's a very cheap material and you really should avoid it whenever you can. I noticed you also said they're flared. Ontop of these plugs being silicone and flared for stretching, that is a horrible idea. (Kaos Software does produce some good jewelery don't get me wrong) But stretching your ears with any type of flared plug is like automatically skipping a size because the outter flare is usually approximately one size bigger than the size you ordered. Example, if your ears are at an 8g and you buy 6g double flared plugs, you're actually forcing your ear to stretch to 4g, because that is the size of the flare. I wouldn't recommend that type of plug or material for stretching. Your best bet is to buy metal or steel, stone or glass. I've had some bad experiences with silicone for plugs in the past, and some of my friends have also. Dont use tapers. period. it will F up your hear. it causes little tears in your ears. if you want good healthy ears, dont use them. if you stretch with tapers or silicon, you shouldnt be stretching period. only go up a size when your ears are done and ready. also use vitamin E oil to massage them
silicone tunnels are easy to stretch with cuz you can fold them in half and jam then in. the problem is that after you put them in, the jewelry continues to expand which can cause tearing, swelling, infection and PAIN. Also, because of its porous nature, as your skin heals, it fuses to the silicone which can cause additional problems. go to a professional to get your ears stretched and be patient.

I noticed you also said they're flared. Ontop of these plugs being silicone and flared for stretching, that is a horrible idea. (Kaos Software does produce some good jewelery don't get me wrong) But stretching your ears with any type of flared plug is like automatically skipping a size because the outter flare is usually approximately one size bigger than the size you ordered. Example, if your ears are at an 8g and you buy 6g double flared plugs, you're actually forcing your ear to stretch to 4g, because that is the size of the flare. I wouldn't recommend that type of plug or material for stretching. Your best bet is to buy metal or steel, stone or glass. I've had some bad experiences with silicone for plugs in the past, and some of my friends have also. Dont use tapers. period. it will F up your hear. it causes little tears in your ears. if you want good healthy ears, dont use them. if you stretch with tapers or silicon, you shouldnt be stretching period. only go up a size when your ears are done and ready. also use vitamin E oil to massage them

silicone tunnels are easy to stretch with cuz you can fold them in half and jam then in. the problem is that after you put them in, the jewelry continues to expand which can cause tearing, swelling, infection and PAIN. Also, because of its porous nature, as your skin heals, it fuses to the silicone which can cause additional problems. go to a professional to get your ears stretched and be patient.

Purchase the water based one or more commonly known as the Latex Silicone. It is paintable and states so on the label.

There is an on line tutorial and instructions for uses other than what it was initially intended for: caulking around windows,
sinks,bathtubs and doors .
In Arts and Crafts it is used for many projects as it is also used in Interior Design for other decorative purposes.

Can i seal my headlights with Silicone with condensation in them and have the condensation still evaporate ?
wow there are alot of stupid people out there. your headlights arent totally sealed, you still have a bulb that goes in and out right. i have a passat and they started to get yellow from the sun, i sanded them down (fine grit) and a blow torched the sanded area ( propain will smooth them back out, if they are akrylic ) carefull you can worp them easy. take your time. Silicone is fin ( just dont put a lot on or you will have ugly bubbles on the inside of the light that you cant cut off. sweet part is there are different colors too (like if you wanted to match your car). the condensation is no problem to fix, when you glue it make sure you have everything drie, give it a couple of days to drie, when you put the bulb in heat the light housing up with a hairdryer. that will drie up all the moister left from the silicone. could even put the bulb in while its hot so humidity doesnt affect it either.Can i seal my headlights with Silicone with condensation in them and have the condensation still evaporate ?

I have a new nylon tent (cheap Texsport) I need to seal before going a on a trip. The booklet says one must first put seam sealer on the seams before use, recommending of course ';Texsport seam sealer spray';. None of the stores in town have tent seam sealer, except for a general purpose silicone spray which is claimed to be good for tents, tarps, and anything needing waterproofing. Not to put down your tent but you may want to get an inexpensive tarp to put over the top. It acts as a fly and get the water away from the tent. Nope. You need a thicker sealer on the seams since the small holes made by the needle need to be completely filled.
McNett Seam Grip is probably the best. It doesn't flake off after a couple of uses like the other stuff. It's five or six bucks for a tube that will seal a two to three person tent. You can' find it in most sporting goods stores.

One tube or bottle should work on a small tent -- two to three on a large one. Do not put seam seal on zippers it is the kiss of death. Only alcohol will get it off.
Not to put down your tent but you may want to get an inexpensive tarp to put over the top. It acts as a fly and get the water away from the tent. Nope. You need a thicker sealer on the seams since the small holes made by the needle need to be completely filled.
McNett Seam Grip is probably the best. It doesn't flake off after a couple of uses like the other stuff. It's five or six bucks for a tube that will seal a two to three person tent. You can' find it in most sporting goods stores.
Silicone spray will work fine for the rest of the tent though.

However if the container is much larger than the amount of silicone. the seal is not perfect and it is not frozen solid then yes, it would evaporate over time into the rest of the jar or into the air.

have you tried model glue . you really need to know the type of plastic you are working with it obviously is not pvc so no amount of pvc glue will work model glue is for polystyrene (ps) most plastics have a glue that works best with that type of plastic
as buckets are not the same as pvc pipe i would highly doubt solvent welding the two buckets together will hold for very long . i would suggest bonding/welding together by heat .

For the record, contrary to what other people have said, saline is actually much harder than silicone and the age is not due to whether youre still growing or not, it is because Silicone was banned for a couple of years because the FDA wanted to study if they were detrimental to patients using silicone implants. A couple years went by and they were re-released for use again. They want you to be 22, thinking that you will be more informed on the risks involved, etc.
P.S. if you want them, get them. dont listen to everyone else, we're all entitled to doing what makes us happy.
i dont know about breast implants but once my older brother turned 18 he got calve implants...he's would always say he had small calves so he got implants....i don't really know what to think abut that, because i understand why a girl wants implants but my brother wanting calve implants?

Will silicone fix an exhaust leak?
i have a small hole where my cat. converter bolts to the Y-pipe...the hole is just big enough for a loud ticking while driving. i was wondering...if i put silicone in the hole while it's cold, let it dry, and then start the car and drive it, will the silicone melt? and if so, what else could i do to patch the hole?Will silicone fix an exhaust leak?

Try 24 hour epoxy resin.

You need a welder, have the hole welded closed at a muffler shop, won't cost much, 20 bucks at the most.
Like most have said already, JB Weld is a good choice. However, if you can find High-Temp Lab Metal, I know it will work. You can find it at industrial supply stores like Fastenal or Grainger. This stuff is stable at 1000 degrees F. The JB Weld is a cheaper alternative.

no. I once used a silicone bunt pan. i thought it was hard to place in the oven because I couldn't set it down and slide it in. I also thought it was hard to remove it for the same reason. The cake I made with it broke and I don't think it cooked as well. The only advantage was that it was easier to clean.

no. I once used a silicone bunt pan. i thought it was hard to place in the oven because I couldn't set it down and slide it in. I also thought it was hard to remove it for the same reason. The cake I made with it broke and I don't think it cooked as well. The only advantage was that it was easier to clean.

I use the silicone slip mat when baking. They are awsome! The pastries will brown lightly on the bottom but no where as brown as using a conventional pan. I was baking a lot of cookies one year and only had 1 mat. So I put a pan in with the mat and a pan in without the mat. The cookies on the mat even tasted better. They were moist on the inside and lightly browned on the outside. If you leave them in the oven a little longer they won't burn. The other bonus is you don't need to grease the pan.

I have an ipod 160gb, and I bought a pink case off e-bay that fit it perfectly, but for some reason, the covering the wheel wasn't allowing me to turn the sound up or down. It was like too thick? I finally ordered a different cover (black) and haven't had a problem.

Actually, I think AngelEve is confusing silicon with silicone. Silicone is a polymer. While it does have silicon atoms (the backbone of this compound is Silicon Oxide), it is also made up of various organic compounds like phenyls. It has completely different properties.

I got 3 pieces a year ago, a bundt pan, muffin pan and brownie pan. They seemed a little wiggly but all three worked fine. The best one is the bundt pan, followed by brownie pan then muffin pan. There was no great improvement in the baked goods from using them. The pans are low cost right now, so you can experiment. I thought they were a little more work to clean than a regular pan. I found one that is VERY STURDY. It's from the Pampered Chef. It makes cupckakes in little flower designs. It has some sort of reinforement around the edge. It works great! It's easy to clean because you do not need to spray it with oil.
IT IS THE BEST INVENTION SINCE PLASTIC WRAP!!!! It works great- and your food tastes so much better and is healthier because you dont have to grease up the pans--- I LOVE IT

i have also used silpats for many years, they are also good, but they tend to degrade if you bake bread daily at 500f on them for a few months

I want to use something that will pick up even the smallest of details. Any suggestions on whats best to use

I'm not sure what the best mold materials are for casting metals since they get so incredibly hot when melted, but the link given above is to a lesson on making a mold from a 2-part silicone putty and various brands of that stuff will take 300 degrees F and some more like 800 (and silicone putties produce very fine detail in molds). That link also uses ';metal clay'; in the finished mold to shape the clay, but it must be removed before curing because that type of clay has to be heated at high temp in a kiln (';metal clays'; are real silver though so could be used that way, then burnished after removal and a trip to the kiln or butane torch, for small items but it is quite expensive).
The DH tells me that perhaps pewter or pewter-like materials melt at a low enough temp that they could be cast in silicone putty molds, but for gold and silver you'd probably use plaster molds (and perhaps a lost wax process), and for higher temp or larger things you'd use very-fine-sand molds.
It would help to know exactly what kind of thing you're wanting to cast and their size, plus the kind of metal you're interested in though.

For a sticky gas pedal what is the best lubricant, WD40, silicone spray, or something else?
You did not specify type of vehicle but it could be that the throttle plates are sticking in the throttle body and need to be cleaned. If it is a cable problem, do not bother with lubricating it and just replace it. Do not spray any lubricant on the linkage as this is petroleum based and will allow dirt ti stick to the linkage causing sticking and binding. if the pedal is sticking and you can't control the engine speed, you should find out why. if it's a worn cable, replace it. trying to lubricate something that wasn't made to be lubricated is foolish. may work for a short period of time but do you want to take a chance on the accelerator getting stuck at the wrong time? if it's not the cable, may be a defective throttle body. get it checked to find out what is causing the problem and repair it properly. hate to be on the road with you if the pedal is stuck.

WD40 is penetrant and spoil the sensor.(TPS)
Spray white lithium grease will outlast both of those and do a better job it is also, available at any auto parts store or wal-mart. I use tube white lithium grease on the fifth wheel on my Kenworth T600, even in that very heavy duty application it lasts a long time. I don't know where you live but I, also know white lithium grease doesn't freeze having used it in -30 degree weather. WD-40 will freeze I have personal experience with this happening!!!!!
If you have a throttle cable that is hanging up don't use WD 40 because it will dry up and cause more troubles. I use a special grease that has graphite in it. This is designed for speedo cables. If the your cable does not move in and out of the cable jacket freely when it is disconnected from the throttle body or carburetor you may need a new one. The return spring might be getting weak or fatigued and should be replaced.
The throttle control cable may be worn,,causing drag within the outer harness,,,if that is the case,,no amount of lubricant will help,,,its cheaper and less of a headache, just to replace the cable and harness.
