no silicone will burn off,go to auto zone and get some jb weld, that will fix the hole.i used it on my muffler and it works very well. Will silicone fix an exhaust leak?
no not even the best silicone is going to hold
silicone is too weak to withstand the back pressure. And probably quickly break down in the heat.
Try 24 hour epoxy resin.
D.
no silicone will melt and you will have a terrible mess and smell. look for exhaust gasket sealer if you can, but be warned it won't last long. the best fix is a new gasket.
JB Weld
You need a welder, have the hole welded closed at a muffler shop, won't cost much, 20 bucks at the most.
Like most have said already, JB Weld is a good choice. However, if you can find High-Temp Lab Metal, I know it will work. You can find it at industrial supply stores like Fastenal or Grainger. This stuff is stable at 1000 degrees F. The JB Weld is a cheaper alternative.
Don't use silicone.....
There are lots of products out there for patching an exhaust system, stop into any autoparts store and they will help you.
DON'T USE SILICON
A better idea is an epoxy that you can buy at most auto parts stores for this very purpose.
take it to a muffler shop the the best thing you do let the professionals do it for you
it will melt and smell real bad and smoke. go to the auto parts store and get a muffler repair kit for about $15. the kit is designed for the hi temp of the exaust pipe
There may be a high termperature epoxy, JB Weld, that would work. Read label.
Everyone with common sense, a club I'm glad to be in on this one, is recommending JB Weld or epoxy (actually JB Weld is epoxy ). That is going to be your easiest and least expensive fix for this leak. JB
